EECS Professor [and Kavli Center for Ethics, Science, and the Public Co-Director] Stuart Russell has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
Russell was recognized “for contributions to developments in artificial intelligence, including reasoning, probabilistic modeling, planning, safety, and education.”
Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Established in 1964, the NAE provides independent guidance on engineering and technological matters and honors those whose achievements have advanced engineering practice, research, education, or leadership in significant ways.
This year’s peer-elected class, a distinguished group including 128 new U.S. members and 22 international members, will be formally inducted at the NAE’s Annual Meeting on October 5, 2025.
The NAE also elected Victoria Coleman, visiting professor of electrical engineering and computer sciences, for innovations in software operations related to national and cyber security and consumer electronics. She is chief executive officer and head of North America Research and Technology at Acubed.
